Belgian Institutions Targeted in DDOS Cyberattack: Royal Palace, Prime Minister, and Senate Websites Temporarily Unavailable

Several websites of Belgian institutions were victims of a DDOS (denial of service) cyberattack late Thursday afternoon, the Belga agency learned. The information was confirmed by the Center for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB). The sites of the Royal Palace, the Prime Minister and the Senate have been made temporarily unavailable.

The CCB indicates that it was able to spot the imminence of a computer attack in the morning. The Center was thus able to notify the services concerned, including the Prime Minister’s Chancellery. They were able to take the necessary measures and avoid further inconvenience. “The prevention measures worked well,” rejoiced the CCB.

Instead of the home page there was a message in English referring to Belgian aid provided to Ukraine, including the promise made on Wednesday to send F-16s in 2025. “We are coming to Belgium to destroy the Russophobic portals”, it was written in particular. The Russian origin of the attack, however, is not confirmed, but is considered a hypothesis.

Thursday evening, only access to the High Assembly site had not yet been restored.
