It was angry that Cédric pushed our orange Alert us button to denounce a new Belgian story. This inhabitant of Auderghem lives in a street straddling the municipality of Watermael-Boitsfort. The latter decided, unilaterally, to modify the parking plan of the avenue. Results ? Residents living in Auderghem can no longer park in front of their homes. Auderghem therefore had to react urgently in order to find a solution.
“Following the unilateral modification by Watermael-Boitsfort of its parking plan, residents of Avenue de la Héronnière who live in Auderghem find themselves without a solution to park… in front of their homes.” It was angry that Cédric contacted us via the orange Alert us button.
This inhabitant of Auderghem discovers, one fine morning upon waking, that he can no longer park in front of his home. “The municipality of Watermael-Boitsfort came to place this sign in front of my house”, he berates. The panel in question? A blue zone, except for residents who must have a parking card. “I don’t know how to park. Well… yes, but paying fines. It’s expensive”, emphasizes Cédric. And there are dozens of them in the same case since two entire buildings are located on Avenue de la Héronnière in the Auderghem part.

To fully understand the situation, it is an avenue straddling 2 municipalities. The part on the right, where Cédric lives, belongs to Auderghem. The left part is in Watermael-Boitsfort. The latter has decided to impose a resident’s card throughout its territory. But problem, according to the alderman of Mobility of Auderghem, panels were placed in the wrong place.“Watermael-Boitsfort has somewhat appropriated our streets”believes Matthieu Pillois. “They simply respond that they misjudged the territory and yes, they were wrong”continues the alderman.
Urgent advice
Faced with dozens of complaints received in a few hours, the Municipality of Auderghem says it had no choice. A council had to be held urgently in order to find a solution. “The decision is to move the Auderghem part to the blue zone too, so that the Auderghemois can apply for a resident’s card”he explains.
Good news that will not be resolved immediately. “Local residents must request a resident’s card to benefit from reciprocity in the two municipalities. But as it is recent, they are not yet aware. They will receive an all-box in the coming days”says Matthieu Pillois.

This parking pass will look a little different: “It is not virtual, it will be a yellow paper map to clearly show the specificity of these streets straddling two municipalities”, specifies the alderman in charge of Mobility in Auderghem. Note however that the virtual card remains valid elsewhere in the municipality of Auderghem.
For its part, the municipality of Watermael-Boitsfort did not wish to react, despite our request for an interview. In the meantime, Cédric may have found a solution. Put a disc and come and change it every 2 hours.
