Belgian GP: Verstappen’s Gearbox Change Puts Him at a Disadvantage, but Weather Remains a Wildcard

After the late sprint start the day before, the GP stars can hope for a punctual start to the Belgian GP on Sunday – at least if they trust the weather forecast. But the drivers remain cautious, and in view of the rain that keeps falling, they dare not make any statements regarding the balance of power on a dry track.

Max Verstappen, who was the fastest in qualifying for the GP but has to start the race from sixth place on the grid due to a gearbox change, explained on the parade lap: “The weather is quite changeable today, which makes the whole thing tricky. But I think we will have a fast car. We’ll see how it goes, I hope we can show a good race.”

Charles Leclerc starts the race from pole. The Ferrari star shares the front row with Sergio Pérez, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz. In the third row is the sprint second Oscar Piastri next to Verstappen. Lando Norris, George Russell, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll complete the top 10 on the grid.

The remaining starting places are followed by Yuki Tsunoda, Pierre Gasly, Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon, Alex Albon, Kevin Magnussen, Guanyu Zhou and Logan Sargeant. Nico Hülkenberg has to drive out of the pit lane because his car has been screwed on. The German reported technical problems before the start of the race, he reported problems with the power delivery of his engine.
