A young Belgian had quite a misadventure when he was fined for taking a photo of himself in front of an unmarked police vehicle equipped with radar.
The young man named Randy who was cycling through the streets of Sint-Niklaas, in East Flanders, took a selfie with the car and its device in the background.
The cyclist published the snapshot as a Facebook benefit photo, before sharing it in the “Politiecontrole Waasland” group to warn drivers of the presence of the speed camera.
A few days later, he was mailed a fine of 184 euros, more than $265, following being identified by the police officer on duty that day, according to local media.
The young man was not sanctioned for his denunciation of the radar but for having violated the Highway Code which notably prohibits using his telephone when traveling by bicycle.
“We can’t even prove that I was driving when I took the photo,” the young man told the daily “HLN” quoted by 7Sur7.
