Thanks to doubles from Andreas Skov Olsen and IgorThiago, Club Bruges had no great difficulty in knocking Zulte Waregem 4-0 out of its way to the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup on Wednesday.

In Bruges, Ronny Deila, who opted for rotation, dismissed Ferran Jutgla, Raphael Onyedika and Philip Zinckernagel in favor of Joel Ordonez, Bjorn Meijer and Michal Skoras. The Norwegian also started Skov Olsen, who he left on the bench once morest Standard. Top scorer for Blauw & Zwart in the league, the Dane was efficient by quickly recovering a cross from Igor Thiago (16th, 1-0). Skov Olsen once once more made the Bruges supporters jump for joy with a masterful strike on a serve from Skoras (19th, 2-0).

While the match was going one way, Zulte Waregem, 2nd in the Challenger Pro League where two former Club players Vossen and Vörmer were playing, inherited two opportunities to reduce the deficit but Traoré did not take advantage of a pass in withdrawal of Ordonez to Simon Mignolet (36th) and Jelle Vossen did not target his shot while he was in an advantageous position (39th)

At the restart, Thiago did not delay to complete the Essevee account by heading a cross from Casper Nielsen (50th, 3-0) and avoiding Christian, Brüls on a service from Meijer (58th, 4-0 ).

Ostend creates a surprise and eliminates Genk

The magic of the Belgian Cup took place at the Diaz Arena in Ostend where the Challenger Pro League club qualified 3-1 following extra time for the quarter-finals to the detriment of Racing Genk, winner of the event five times and no later than 2021.

Traveling to the Kustboys, Wouter Vrancken once once more rotated his core and only kept three starters from Sunday. The Genk coach, who also opted for alternation in goal, aligned Hendrik Van Crombrugge. The Limburgers dominated for around twenty minutes but Andi Zeqiri (9th), Luca Oyen (11th, 13th) and Anouar Ait el Hadj (21st) did not take advantage of this strong moment. Finally, the Ostenders came closest to the opening goal when a shot from Ewan Henderson hit the crossbar (34th).

At the restart, Thomas Basila gave the Côtiers the lead with a header (65th, 1-0) and Anouar El Hadj completed a nice combination on the right flank (69th, 1-1). Until the end of regulation time and during extra time, Genk had the most chances but launched from deep, Robbie D’Haese once once more gave the Kustboys the lead (112th, 2-1). And following winning a duel once morest Patrik Hrosovsky, substitute Luis Hartwig quietly slipped the ball into the back of the net (120th+2, 3-1).

The fans of Knokke (N1) push Oud-Heverlee Louvain to penalties but lose 2-4 (1-1 following extra time) in the 1/8th final.

While the score was 1-1 following 120 minutes, OHL snatched its qualification for the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup on penalties Wednesday evening on the lawn of N1 club Knokke (2-4).

Among the Louvanists, Oscar Garcia left his captain Siebe Schryvers on the bench and gave the armband to Ewoud Pletinckx. The visiting coach placed his trust in the attacking duo Konan N’Dri -Jon Thorsteinsson. After a few minutes to the advantage of the Côtiers, OHL took over and opened the scoring with Joren Dom (24th, 0-1). Subsequently, there were not many strong moments but OHL, which seemed to be resting on its lead, was punished by a header from Justin Pieters (45th + 3, 1-1).

Returning from the locker room, OHL kept the ball in its ranks without being really dangerous. The visitors’ pace remained too slow to put Knokke out of the race. The difference in level between the Jupiler Pro League team and that of National 1 has never been obvious. After extra time with few opportunities, the Louvanists were more efficient during the penalty shootout: Schrijvers, Thorsteinsson, Brunes and Holzhauser made the four. Among the Côtiers, Aelterman and Bailly transformed the first two attempts but Jalloh and Addo did not imitate them, putting an end to the run of the Knokkois who had eliminated Seraing and Malines in quick succession in the previous rounds.
