Belgian companies are increasingly adopting cloud services

Only a small minority of Belgian companies do not use cloud services. In addition, there is a clear evolution towards a single cloud, both public and private.

The larger the size of the company in terms of personnel, the more cloud services are used massively. Thus, in large companies with more than 500 people, this is 88% of respondents according to Data News’ ICT Guide survey. But also in smaller companies with less than 50 people, the percentage of 73% turns out to be high. The motivations that explain the massive use of cloud services are multiple, but flexibility is cited with 30% as the main reason, followed by reliability (24%), scalability (18%) and efficiency in terms of cost (15%).

We also asked companies how cloud usage has changed over the past 2 years. In large companies, the evolution is more towards the private cloud (50.7%), while 33% are also migrating to the public cloud. And in smaller companies, the trend is similar, although less pronounced. Only very small companies in the country indicate to more than a third that they have not registered any change in the last 2 years.

In terms of data hosting, Belgian companies favor both local and international data centers and hosting providers. A majority of 62% say they use at least one Belgian data center and/or host. In addition, 55% use at least one data center and/or international host. In other words, many companies ‘spread’ their hosting over several players, both in Belgium and abroad.

But what regarding the future of cloud and data centers? Which technology appears to be the most promising to take hold in the future? Several answers were possible, but one clearly stood out with 66%: artificial intelligence associated with a self-learning and self-managed infrastructure. In 2nd and 3rd place are quantum computing (26%) and serverless information (21%).
