On June 21, the Mons criminal court handed down a judgment involving around thirty people, whether or not involved in cannabis cultivation scattered across the country, including in Borinage. Edmond, the head of this association, received six years in prison and a fine of 32,000 euros.
Georges did not appear at the trial, he was in Albania and he was the subject of an international arrest warrant, having received three years in prison.
Arrested at the exit of the plane
The man who holds a Greek passport was arrested at a Schengen area airport, when he got off the plane, in front of his wife and children. He was transferred to a Belgian prison and he was able to oppose the judgment within the deadline.
During his appearance before the criminal court, he contested any involvement in this network active throughout Belgium. Certainly, he knew compatriots involved in this trafficking, because he attended the same schools as them in Albania, but he maintained that he was not involved in this affair.

Seen in Borinage
On September 5, 2021, Georges was observed by the police hiding in front of the home of the head of the network, in Borinage. He was in the company of another individual convicted in this case.
For the court, Georges provided assistance in this trafficking and he must therefore be condemned. However, the sentence of three years in prison is increased to 18 months with simple suspension for a period of five years. Georges, who was able to leave prison, received a suspended fine of 8,000 euros for anything exceeding 2,000 euros.
