Luca Brecel still breathe. In the semi-finals of the world billiard championships, the Belgian was largely dominated by his young Chinese opponent, Si Jiahui.
Unable to reverse a trend that was emerging frame after frame, Brecel was trailing 5-14 after the third frame of the 3rd session, this Friday. Knowing that the victory is decided in the best of 33 frames (the first to 17 wins), few people gave much of the skin of the Belgian, already happy to have arrived there.
But at the cost of an incredible burst of pride, Brecel found colors to pocket the next 5(!) frames. At the end of the evening session, and at the dawn of an obviously crucial last day, the Belgian therefore returned to 10-14.
And even if the mission promises to be perilous and his opponent is still only three frames away from victory, Brecel can still dream of the final. After his resounding feat against legend Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarterfinals, the Belgian is far from having said his last word. We applaud with both hands.
