This is a phenomenon that has diminished in recent years. However, directory scams are still rampant, as evidenced by the suspicious call received Monday morning by a business owner from Belfaux (FR). “The person on the phone told me that she worked for the municipality and that it had been decided to put my establishment forward in the next guide to good addresses in Fribourg. They offered me a one-page ad space for around 1,500 francs.” Suspicious, the restaurateur went to the municipal administration, which refuted any link with the said appeal. Syndic Muriel Frésard confirms.

But what is a directory scam? In most cases, a person is shrewdly tricked into entering into a contract without being aware of the commitment he is making. A practice that has almost disappeared since the boom in cyber-scams, notes the Friborg cantonal police. However, the latter recalls the importance of reading all the contracts signed, in particular the general conditions and the mentions in the small print.
