Beleris: I will continue to fight 2024-08-10 07:36:59

Earlier, Greek diplomatic sources called on Tirana to respond to complaints about the rigor of the election process in Heimarra.

The announcement of Fredis Beleris

“The result of yesterday’s elections leaves a bitter taste, because it seems to do injustice to the fight that we Chimariots have been fighting, all these years, to take the fate of our country into our own hands again.

But it is not so. The opposite! Yesterday’s result indeed confirms that it is difficult for the people of a small place to deal with the machinery of an entire state, where the Prime Minister himself targets and divides with the power of unchecked power.

But the fact that we have maintained the support of the citizens who trusted us fifteen months ago, despite my illegal imprisonment and intimidation tactics, despite the transfer of socialist party voters, despite changing the rules so that many of our countrymen cannot vote and so on other small and big things, it shows that the Chimariots do not give up and will continue to fight. After all, this is the tradition of our country and we will remain faithful to it.

I want to thank and express my pride in the contribution of each and every one of you who fought this fight, even if the outcome was predetermined. I especially want to thank Petros Gikourias, who did not hesitate to leave his life in America to come and fight for Himara.

Today a new reality has dawned, but we have learned the hard way. Himara has endured much greater existential threats in its history than Mr. Rama and his associates. And we are still here, preserving our identity, language and culture. With a thousand difficulties we have managed to prevent the complete deterioration of our population and to defend our assets against organized crime, state negligence and nationalistic obsessions.

But all this will have no meaning without our people. We must keep the youth in our country and for the Municipality of Himara to achieve economic self-sufficiency, utilizing the enormous capital of our natural wealth with sustainable policies for the development of primary production and tourism. In other words, we need the establishment of a minority high school, something we have been asking for for three decades, so that our children are not uprooted, the establishment of a technical school for tourism professions in Himara and sustainable, low-intensity investments, which will coexist and complement each other with small local family businesses . And we demand, finally, almost thirty-five years after the fall of communism in Albania, the return of property titles to the owners.

This will be our compass until the next elections and the measure that will determine our attitude towards Vangelis Tavos. Whatever is good for the place, we will support it. At the end of the writing, we face him as a musafir, because as he came, so he will leave in the next election.

I will continue to fight, not only from Brussels and Athens, but primarily from my place, Himara. And I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we turn the page, as we did in May 2023, before they steal our victory.
