Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a bilateral meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on Tuesday that the visit will be very helpful in opening new avenues of cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
After this meeting held in Islamabad, a statement issued by the Prime Minister House said that Pakistan values its relations with Belarus.
According to the statement, various topics including political relations, trade and investment, defense cooperation and regional issues were discussed in the meeting.
Both the leaders reiterated their determination to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation and economic and trade relations, while the Prime Minister urged the President of Belarus to promote Pakistan’s economy through export-led growth and attracting investment from friendly countries. Also informed about the rehabilitation policy.
In the meeting, the two leaders also discussed global and regional developments.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko arrived in Pakistan on Monday evening on a three-day visit where he was received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Memorandums of understanding were also signed between the two countries to increase cooperation in various fields.
A 68-member delegation of Belarus is on a visit to Pakistan since Sunday.
Belarus and Pakistan relations
This is Lukashenko’s second visit to Pakistan. Earlier, Lukashenko also visited Pakistan in 2015 when Nawaz Sharif was the Prime Minister. In response, Nawaz Sharif visited Belarus three months later.
Recently, Ukrainian Prime Minister RA Golovchenko attended the meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Islamabad.

After these visits, the two countries formed a joint working group under which the two countries are cooperating with each other in the industrial and agricultural sectors. Six meetings of this group have been held so far.
It is expected that in the visit of the Belarusian delegation, economic cooperation between the two countries will be further promoted and several agreements will be signed during it.
In September 2024, Belarus expressed interest in supplying electric buses and charging stations to Islamabad.
Deputy Minister of Industry of Belarus Alexey Kishnarenko met the Chairman of CDA in Islamabad. Currently, Chinese-made electric buses are running in Islamabad. According to newspaper reports, Belarus will give these buses to Pakistan on soft terms.
