(Archyde.com) – Belarusian President Lukashenko said on Monday that any country that wanted to join the Belarusian-Russian coalition might have nuclear weapons.
On the 25th, Russia and Belarus, which form a “confederate state,” signed an agreement to formally decide to deploy Russian tactical nuclear missiles in Belarusian territory.
Lukashenko said in an interview released by Russian state television late on Monday that there was a need to “strategically understand” that the two countries had a unique opportunity to unite.
“Nobody would object to Kazakhstan and others having the same close ties that we have with the Russian Federation,” he said. That’s it. There will be nuclear weapons for everyone.”
He also said that this was his opinion, not Russia’s.
Kazakhstan, which has historically had close ties with Russia but has not recognized Russia’s annexation of parts of Ukraine, rejected Lukashenko’s call.
“Thank you for his jokes,” Tokayev said on the messaging app Telegram, according to the president’s office, adding that Kazakhstan is already a member of the Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). No further integration was required.
“Nuclear weapons are not necessary because we are a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty,” he said, adding that he remained committed to his obligations under international agreements.
