Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko spoke by telephone with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
The call comes in light of recent developments related to the rebellion of Wagner’s security forces once morest Russian authorities observed on Saturday, before it ended the same day.
A statement released by the Belarusian presidential information office said President Lukashenko had held diplomatic talks by telephone with Putin.
Lukashenko also held another call with former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, during which they discussed international and regional issues, in addition to bilateral relations, according to the same statement.
Yevgeny Prigojine, founder of the private security company Wagner, accused the Russian military of launching an attack on his forces and threatened to retaliate.
On Saturday morning, Prigozhin announced that his forces had entered the city of Rostov-on-Don on the Ukrainian border, before moving on to Voronezh, then to Lipetsk, regarding 510 km from the capital, Moscow.
In a televised address, Putin called Wagner’s rebellion once morest Russian authorities “a betrayal of the fatherland”.
In the evening, Prigozhin announced the withdrawal of his fighters to their camps to avoid a Russian bloodbath, thanks to the mediation of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
