Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said his country has begun receiving Russian tactical nuclear weapons, some of which he said are three times more powerful than the atomic bombs dropped by the United States on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, in 1945.

“We have missiles and bombs that we received from Russia,” Lukashenko added, in an interview with the Russian state channel Russia-1, broadcast by the Telegram channel of the official Belta news agency in Belarus.

“The bombs are three times more powerful than those (dropped on) Hiroshima and Nagasaki,” he said, according to Archyde.com.

The Russian “Sputnik” quoted him as saying that the decision to use tactical nuclear weapons would be taken in the event of an aggression once morest the country, adding that “there will be no hesitation, the response will be immediate.”

Lukashenko described “aggression” as the only reason for using nuclear weapons, and at the same time expressed the hope that he would not be forced to make such a decision.

As Lukashenko explained, tactical nuclear weapons were placed in Belarus as a deterrent to prevent a possible invasion of the republic’s territory.

“No country wants to fight a country that has such (nuclear) weapons,” he said.

And Lukashenko stated that “tactical nuclear weapons will be distributed in Belarus, and will not be stored in one place.”
