Belarus President Lukashenko met with visiting Russian Defense Minister Shoigu in Minsk on the 3rd. The two sides discussed the upcoming “Alliance Resolve-2022” joint military exercise between the two countries and other military cooperation matters.
Lukashenko said that the current global situation may enter a tense period at any time, and the reason for this situation is the military escalation of Western countries.
Lukashenko said that Belarus has a need for weapon upgrades and intends to purchase new Russian weapons, including Su-35 fighter jets and S-400 air defense missile systems. Belarus will also build a joint training and combat center with Russia to develop and learn to use new weapons.
On the same day, two battalions of Russian air defense units equipped with the S-400 air defense missile system arrived in Belarus from the Russian Far East to participate in the “Alliance Resolve-2022” exercise.
According to the official website of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense, Belarus and Russia will conduct the “Alliance Resolve-2022” joint military exercise at several military training grounds in Belarus from February 10 to 20.
