Hamas had planned to launch a large barrage of rockets at Israel this morning to mark the October 7 anniversary, but its plans were foiled. This was revealed by the IDF, which in a statement specifies that it has “thwarted an immediate threat, after having identified preparations by the terrorist organization Hamas to open fire on Israel”. Israeli fighter jets hit several rocket launchers and tunnels across Gaza just before 6.30am, the time Hamas had planned to launch the rockets. The Islamist group managed to launch only four rockets in the Sufa area, three of which were intercepted while the fourth fell in an open area.
The armed wing of Hamas instead claimed to have fired rockets towards southern Israel this morning, during celebrations of the first anniversary of the Palestinian group’s attack. The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades said their fighters fired the rockets during “enemy rallies” towards the Rafah crossing, the Kerem Shalom crossing and Kibbutz Holit near the Gaza border.
