This Wednesday the Blood Donation Marathon will take place again at the Dénia Social Centre. Those neighbours who wish to do so can take part in this altruistic act to save lives. With this edition, Dénia has already demonstrated its solidarity for 16 years.

This morning (up to 13:30) 34 people had already donated, according to data from the City Council. “Last year there were more than 100 donations, with more than 10 new ones. I am sure that this year we will exceed that figure,” said Rafa Carrió, Councillor for Health.

On the other hand, Carrió wanted to thank the involvement of the collaborating companies and associations, which in addition to spreading the word about the event, have provided gifts to encourage people to donate. This year’s collaborators include Cruz Roja, AEHTMA, Dénia FM, Baleària, CEDMA, Mercat de Dénia, Bodega Les Freses de Jesús Pobre, Óptica Romany, Canfali Marina Alta, Avantcem and Electrodomèstics Pineda.

A call for participation

“Being altruistic costs very little,” said the deputy mayor, who recalled that hospitals in Valencia alone need 650 bags of blood a day to meet demand without problems.

Carrió has invited citizens to participate, saying that “donating blood is giving life.” “Blood cannot be manufactured and it is a very charitable gesture. On the poster for this year’s campaign there is a heart; many people who donate do so from the heart, it is a charitable gesture of joint collaboration that contributes that small grain of sand,” she added.

The councillor reminded that the basic requirements to be able to participate in the donation are to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos and be in good health. Those who wish to participate can do so until 1:30 p.m. and from 4:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
