Regarding the case of T.D.L. (3 years old, residing in Nghia Dung commune, Quang Ngai city, Quang Ngai province) suspected of choking on pumpkin seeds and died and family members accused the hospital of negligence, on January 27, Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Children’s Hospital reported.
According to Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Children’s Hospital, around 9:09 pm on January 26, the hospital received patients with T.D.L. About 26 minutes later, L. was admitted to the Pediatric Respiratory Department with a diagnosis of croup and monitored for foreign bodies.
The hospital said that the pediatric patient was fully examined by a doctor, and a consultation was held between respiratory doctor Huynh Duy Tham, doctor Bang and an ENT specialist for circulatory, respiratory, digestive examinations. nerve; perform a full clinical examination.
However, at 23:15 on the same day, the respiratory pediatric nurse came to take care of the patient but there was no patient in the ward, so she reported to the doctor on duty. Around 4:00 p.m. on January 27, the patient’s family took the patient to the hospital’s General Emergency Department, then was escorted by medical staff. Directly transferred to the Intensive Care Unit – Anti-poisoning with the condition: Neck pulse is not caught, cyanosis, chest not moving, pupils dilated, abdomen distended, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest of unknown cause.
As VTC News reported, on January 27 (the 6th day of the Lunar New Year), at Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Children’s Hospital, Mr. Tran Van Chi (resident in Quang Ngai City, Quang Ngai Province) denounced this hospital for being irresponsible, causing T. .A L. (3 years old, Chi’s son) died.
According to Mr. Chi, around 20:00 on January 26, L. showed signs of difficulty breathing and vomiting. He and his wife thought that the child had choked on pumpkin seeds, so they were taken to Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Children’s Hospital. When taking L. to the emergency room, the family actively told the doctor – the doctor present at the hospital that he had choked on pumpkin seeds.
“A young doctor came to see my son’s throat with a medical instrument and told the family there was nothing. I have said over and over that he has choked on pumpkin seeds and needs to have an X-ray, an endoscopy to check. After waiting for a while, the medical team took my baby to take a picture and continued to say it was nothing.” – Mr. Chi narrated and added more information, when L. continued to vomit, the family proposed to move to Da Nang. However, the doctor who examined him still confirmed that his son had asthma, not a foreign object.
“Nurse told me no one is working now, only tomorrow morning. The hospital staff kept urging my family to go home to get insurance to do the procedure for my grandchild’s hospitalization. Around 11pm, the family drove him home to find insurance and wash him because he was vomiting all over. In the morning of the same day, my wife and I rented a taxi to bring our child back to the hospital and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. About 20 minutes later, the doctor announced that my baby did not survive. The family is really upset regarding the hospital’s irresponsible way of working.” Mr. Chi said.
