LH Mikl-Leitner: “Here you can see the diversity of being a child”
St. Polten (OTS) – Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner opened the new exhibition at the Schallaburg today, Friday. The show, which will be open to the public from tomorrow, Saturday, is entitled “Being a Child” and aims to provide new perspectives on this formative phase of life.
It was “nice to see the diversity of being a child in this exhibition,” said Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner during the opening. She thanked the entire Schallaburg team for the preparatory work and opened the exhibition together with the students from the NMS Loosdorf who were present at the opening ceremony.
In Lower Austria, the participation and involvement of children is a very important concern, the governor said. As examples of this, she cited the planning of new playgrounds or the children’s art laboratory in St. Pölten as “a new initiative to promote children’s creativity”.
The Schallaburg team has set itself the task of “stimulating dialogue and exchange with our actions”, emphasized Managing Director Peter Fritz. This will also make the Schallaburg “a stage for topics that affect each of us”, and childhood is such a topic, he said.
On the one hand, the exhibition is aimed at the children themselves, and on the other hand also at the adults, who are invited to “see the world through children’s eyes once more”, curator Dominik Heher informed regarding the conception of the new show. “We all benefit from this change of perspective,” he said with conviction. The following also had their say: the psychologist and psychotherapist Sabine Völkl-Kernstock (“Children need stability, good future prospects and a space where they can develop.”) and Lisa Heidegger-Haber from UNICEF Austria, who reported on the cooperation with the exhibition team and pointed out the importance of children’s rights.
The opening was artistically designed by the Adhoc-Theater, Abbot Maximilian Fürnsinn performed the blessing.
The new exhibition “Being a Child” explores the question of what it means to be a child in twelve subject areas and 15 rooms. The exhibition is designed as a varied journey and leads from the child’s stages of development to questions such as “How long have you actually been a child?” or “When do you feel grown up?”. In a discussion lab entitled “Now we understand each other!” you can get to the bottom of the question of what it takes for communication to be more successful across generations. In the new series “Arkadenhof Talks” experts will discuss burning questions and challenges related to growing up today – for example on May 25th at 3.30 p.m. on the topic “To me, being a child means being free and imaginative be. The magical power of childhood. How creativity shapes our childhood”. The participants in the discussion are the illustrator Renate Habinger, the psychologist Sabine Völkl-Kernstock and the artistic director of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Norbert Trawöger. Other highlights are the Schallaburg podcast “SchallaCast”, which offers even more information and suggestions on the subject of the exhibition, and the escape room “Unter suspicion! – The Losenstein Files”, which is designed as a historical adventure regarding the history of the Schallaburg.
The “Being a Child” exhibition at the Schallaburg is open from tomorrow, May 13th, until November 5th of this year. Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
