Sakaratul Maut Movie Synopsis
Sakaratul Maut tells the story of the life of Pak Wiryo and Bu Wiryo, a respectable married couple in Umbul Krida Village. Their happy life changed drastically following a tragic traffic accident that took Bu Wiryo’s life and left Pak Wiryo in a coma. Their youngest child, Retno, decided to postpone her departure to Surabaya to take care of her father with her older sister, Wati.
However, the situation becomes more complicated when a conflict arises between Wati and Tarjo, her half-brother from Pak Wiryo’s second marriage, over an inheritance issue. Gossip among the neighbors adds to the complexity, with rumors that Pak Wiryo is bound by supernatural powers that make it difficult for him to die. Terror from evil entities begins to haunt the family, while strange symptoms that emerge from the comatose Pak Wiryo further complicate the situation.
Not only does it offer a tense horror element, “Sakaratul Maut” also explores deep internal conflicts within a family, especially around the inheritance war that gives rise to complicated dynamics among family members. This is not only a struggle once morest supernatural entities, but also a struggle to maintain unity in the face of threatening terror.

The unique fact behind the film “Sakaratul Maut” is that this film was inspired by a real incident in the family of Sidharta Tata, the director. He said that this incident happened to his great-grandfather during the Dutch colonial era, where his great-grandfather had a khodam or knowledge to protect himself, which made it difficult for him to die. This experience became the main inspiration in making this fictional horror film, which raises the supernatural theme from real life felt by the director.
Another interesting fact is that the ghost design in this film actually came from a sketch made directly by the director himself. Sidharta Tata explained this in an interview with Indonesian Media on Thursday (11/7).
