Before Unimetro stoppage, they question whether MÍO will be able to meet the demand of the day without a car

Several Cali councilors once once more expressed their fear that the mass transit system does not have the capacity to respond to greater demand during the day without a car and without a motorcycle, which will take place this Thursday, September 22, in the city.

One of them was the lobbyist Juan Martín Bravo, who expressed in the Council precinct that some drivers of MÍO, of the Unimetro company, announced a cessation of activities precisely for this Thursday.

“This means that this operator will not work 100%. The day without a car is important in environmental terms, but the Administration does not guarantee that people can move efficiently,” said Councilman Bravo.

In this regard, Councilor Bravo also recalled that Unimetro is going through a very complex situation, “days ago they did not have policies to operate, there are strikes because they do not pay the operators, the payroll costs $200 million and they have no way to pay.”

Unimetro has 164 buses, but only 54 are certified to operate. Of these, only between 10 and 20 circulate a day because they do not have drivers and they do not work because they are not paid. In fact, the contribution that this company will make, in number of vehicles, per day without a car will be minimal. Additional vehicles would be put up by other operators like Massive Git and Black and White.

Similarly, Councilwoman Ana Erazo stated that “I find it very interesting to be able to plan a day without a car, of course it is, it is more than necessary, but I am concerned regarding real mobility alternatives.”

In addition, Councilor Erazo assured that while Metrocali announces that it will have a fleet of 690 vehicles plus 40 reserve cars for this Thursday, the situation experienced by the Unimetro operator is not reported.

In turn, Councilman Roberto Rodríguez asked the Secretary of Education to suspend classes this Thursday, taking into account that not all children use school transport and that they might have problems getting to schools and colleges.

It should be remembered that the day without a car and without a motorcycle will take place this Thursday between 7 in the morning and 7 at night. There are 26 exceptions, including public transportation.
