The controversy over Roberto Vannacci’s words on disabled people does not subside. Intervening on the issue is Laura Ravetto, deputy of the League, Alex Reed of the April 29th episode of Prima di Tomorrow, a pre-evening television program which is broadcast on Rete4 and hosts Bianca Berlinguer: “General Vannacci on the issue of disability is been deliberately misunderstood, he did a subsequent interview saying that he had never dreamed of thinking that separate classes were needed, but that he meant that something more was needed, more help. I would like to point out to you that the League is the party that wanted the Ministry for Disability and thanks to the ruling League, 13 thousand more operators have been hired. It seems to me that we are giving an answer with the facts.”
But what had the general really said? “I am a supporter of public schools, but I wish they were stricter. I believe that classes with ‘separate characteristics’ would help kids with great potential to express themselves to the fullest, and even those with more difficulties would be helped in a special way. It is not discriminatory. For students with problems I rely on specialists. I don’t specialize in disabilities. However, I certainly wouldn’t put a disabled person to run with someone who breaks the one hundred meter record. You can make him do a lesson together, out of a spirit of belonging, but then he needs specific help. The same thing goes for school”, Vannacci’s speech in an interview with La Stampa.
“Vannacci was deliberately misunderstood on the issue of disability, he meant that we need more help. The League is the party that wanted the Ministry for Disability”
