This Wednesday in the Encuentro interview with Julio Villagrán, lawyer Enrique Anaya highlighted that the Territorial Control Plan was a failure, which is why the government was forced to use the emergency regime, which violates people’s rights.
“According to security specialists, common and organized crime must be fought with the normal tools that a government has and go to the root of that problem… It is not known how many people of those 80 thousand detained by the regime would be gang members, because there are complaints of thousands of innocent detainees”said the lawyer.
For the lawyer, the government’s interest in maintaining the emergency regime is because it wants to have control of Salvadoran society. He also highlighted that citizens do not support the emergency regime, but rather the results of this measure, but this suspension of rights is affecting honest Salvadorans.
“In the reorganization of the center of San Salvador, the vendors said that they had had to leave because they had been threatened with the emergency regime”says Enrique Anaya.
At least 27 members of criminal structures are being tried in the courts of New York, for which the United States requested their extradition, the lawyer mentioned that before it was the Supreme Court of Justice that authorized the extradition, now it is not them and the government does not has given explanations regarding it.
“Before, the extraditions of gang leaders were authorized and suddenly they were no longer authorized. Now there are 2 or 3 cases of gang leaders who were imprisoned in Zacatecoluca with pending sentences, today they appear free in Mexico or the United States, the government has not given any explanations.”Anaya mentioned.
