Before the end of the year, work will begin to improve drinking water services in Villa Hayes

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Government confirmed that everything is ready to begin construction of the new Potable Water Treatment Plant (PTAP) in Villa Hayes before the end of the year.

This initiative, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will soon be put out to tender in a process that is taking place in Japan and involves companies from that country.

This is a significant step forward for the treatment of wastewater and the improvement of the quality of life in the region, reported the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Claudia Centurión, during a technical tour of the Bajo Chaco, this Friday.

The day included the participation of the president of Congress, Senator Basilio Núñez, the director of Drinking Water and Sanitation (Dapsan), Claudia Crosa, the president of the Sanitary Services Company of Paraguay (Essap), Luis Fernando Bernal, and local authorities .

Centurión also highlighted the importance of this project for Villa Hayes and its positive impact on the environment and public health. “Thanks to the efforts made and the support of JICA, we are ready to carry out this work that will improve water quality and ensure proper treatment of wastewater in Villa Hayes,” he said.

Project details

The head of Dapsan, Claudia Crossa, explained the scope of the project: “This donation includes the works to capture raw water from the Paraguay River, a raw water intake plant, a water treatment plant, rehabilitation of pipes for transporting and distributing treated water, improvement of networks and a system for monitoring the plant’s operation,” Crossa explained.

The donation project of approximately USD 17 million, approved by Law No. 6994/2022, will benefit more than 31,000 inhabitants of the city of Villa Hayes and the execution of the works will allow Essap, which is the provider of the drinking water service, to supply its service area with quality water at all times.

Institutional support and coordination

For his part, the president of the state-owned company, Luis Fernando Bernal, stressed: “Thanks to the coordination between our institutions, we are ensuring that the inhabitants of Villa Hayes and other areas, such as the city of Nanawa, will soon have a supply of quality drinking water.”
