On Wednesday evening, the mediation committee in the Bundesrat meets and wants to get the controversial citizen’s allowance off the ground.
Traffic lights and the opposition have been working on the plans for the social benefits on which 5.3 million people in Germany depend for a week.
Now the finale in the permanent dispute!
So far, the countries are blocking the new support (to replace Hartz IV). One reason: too few incentives to take up a job.
Negotiations went on in secret for days. BILD has now learned that there should be a solution that can be approved. The first results are to be put on paper on Tuesday.
► Apparently there should now be sanctions from day 1 – a condition of the Union. Means: support recipients who z. B. refuse job appointments, money should be canceled directly. Minister of Social Affairs Hubertus Heil (50, SPD) only wanted penalties following 6 months.
► The CDU/CSU also want support recipients to have to use up their savings more quickly. So far, they should be able to keep 60,000 euros (single) or 90,000 euros (pair) without any problems. The exact amount and the time in which assets are not touched is still being debated.
In the Union you are confident of victory. “It essentially stays with Hartz IV, only the name changes. Encourage and challenge remains, ”says the CDU leadership.
Traffic light politicians were also optimistic. SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert (33): “We believe that this will work this week.” Rolf Mützenich (63), head of the parliamentary group, added: “I think we’re on the right track.”
The Greens parliamentary group leader Britta Haßelmann (60) said: “The citizen money will come, I’m sure of it.” But CSU boss Markus Söder (55) also announced in Munich that the negotiations allowed a “certain basic optimism”.
Nevertheless, a night session is expected for Wednesday – the committee will not meet until 7 p.m.
