Breath of The Wild 2, for lack of an official title, will not be released in 2022 as Nintendo claimed, leaving fans unsatisfied. While an insistent rumor would suggest that players would be entitled to the port of a previous opus on Nintendo Switch, the studio in charge of Twilight Princess HD is rather ready to make one.

Twilight Princess and Wind Waker to the rescue

Fans have been eagerly awaiting Link’s return in 2022 with the release of Breath of the Wild 2 before Nintendo does not cool everyone by announcing its postponement for the year 2023. To wait, a rumor announced the potential arrival of Wind Waker et Twilight Princess starting this year on the Nintendo Switch.

The rumor supported by Jeff Grubb had gained momentum recently. If we expected to see these ports for the 35th anniversary of the series last year, the fans finally had the right to Skyward Sword HD. A rather disappointing release in view of expectations. We therefore hope for a release of the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess compilation for this year, but once again the hope of the fans risks taking a hit. Regarding this potential compilation, the developers of Twilight Princess HD, the WiiU port of the game originally released on Wii, spoke during a recent interview.

Only the Zelda and 2022?

It is the CEO of the studio Tantalus Media Tom Crago, at the origin of the HD port of Twilight Princess and who also worked on Skyward Sword HD, who wanted to clarify the situation. For their part, the Tantalus teams have not been contacted by Nintendo for the possible porting of a Zelda title.

We would love to do that (porting Twilight Princess to Switch), but it hasn’t been a priority for Nintendo – at least not in the conversations we’ve had (…). The way the relationship with our partners works is that we jump at any opportunity to work on their games. There is a constant dialogue between our two companies. Often time passes between titles and a few ideas are brought up on occasion, but in the case of Skyward Sword, the time passed and we received an email saying “would you be interested in working on Skyward Sword for the Switch? ” to which we obviously replied “yes, let’s do it”. Afterwards we talked to Nintendo about what the port should look like, and then we got to work. It was ultimately quite similar to how Twilight Princess HD came to be.

Unless Tom Crago is trying to mislead us, there are no Twilight Princess or other Zelda ports planned for Tantalus. We can possibly hope that Nintendo has entrusted this task to another studio, but the relationship between the two companies and these recent revelations are enough to cool the ardor of the most impatient fans.
