Beda Klee did better than defend his place in the top 10 of the Tour de Ski. The St. Gallois, brilliant 6th in the 10 km classic on Sunday, finished 7th in the skating pursuit on Monday in Dobbiaco. Victory went to the Norwegian Harald Amundsen, who took power following this 3rd stage disputed over 22 km.

Tenth overall at the start of the stage, Beda Klee held up perfectly within the first group of pursuers, despite a difficult course and exhausting snow conditions. He was unable to join the fight for 3rd place in the stage, but climbed to 7th overall with 1’06” behind the new leader.

Beda Klee will struggle to maintain his place in the top-10 at the end of the Davos sprint on Wednesday. Then there will be 2 more races in classic technique as well as the final ascent of Alpe Cermis. “The goal is a top-20 ranking, I’m on the right track“, he believes.

Two other Swiss took their place in the top-20 of this pursuit. Present in a 2nd group, Cyril Fähndrich and the Valaisan Candide Pralong – who did not fail to praise the preparation of the skis – finished 16th and 17th respectively, 2’04” behind the winner of the day.

Amundsen masters

In the lead, the Norwegians Erik Valnes and Harald Amundsen mastered their subject, collaborating for around fifteen kilometers. Favorite for the final victory, Amundsen then attacked as expected to win with a 32”9 lead over Valnes and 1’04”6 over another Norwegian, Jan Thomas Jenssen (3rd).
