McLaren racer Lando Norris won his first victory in a Formula 1 race in his career following surprisingly beating world champion Max Verstappen at the Miami GP, Monday (6/5) WIB.
Bringing a breath of fresh air to a Formula 1 season that was threatening to be dominated once more by one driver, Norris, appearing in his 110th race for McLaren, beat Verstappen by more than 7 seconds while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished third.
Verstappen, who started the race from pole position, has won four of five Formula 1 races this year and leads the drivers’ standings.
The Miami GP looks set to be won once more by Verstappen, who won the previous two races in Miami. The Dutch racer was ahead until lap 24 when he entered the pits so Norris’ McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, took over the lead position.
Piastri then entered the pit, 4 laps later, so Norris was able to take over the leading position and was not overtaken from then on.
Norris entered the pit when the safety car came on on the 30th lap so his lead might not be taken away.

The safety car came out following Kevin Magnussen hit Logan Sargeant causing the Williams driver to hit the wall, triggering the yellow flag to be raised.
Norris, who had been on the podium 15 times before winning at the Miami GP, took full advantage of the safety car with Verstappen having difficulty catching him.
This is the first time Verstappen has lost when he managed to finish since Carlos Sainz did so at the Singapore GP, September last year. (AFP/Z-1)
