MAVERICK Vinales overcame a bad start after starting from pole position to recover and become champion at the American GP, Monday (15/4) early morning WIB.
Teenage rookie Pedro Acosta finished second followed by Enea Bastianini who completed the podium in Texas.
Vinales, who slipped to 11th position after starting the race poorly, made MotoGP history by becoming the first racer to win a grand prix with three different teams, namely Suzuki, Yamaha and now Aprilia.
“Thank you everyone. I feel you all have injected enthusiasm into me,” said Vinales to his supporters.
“History was made, thank you America. I am very happy. We must continue to work hard to make this pace continue,” he continued.
There was drama when the American GP only had 10 laps left. Marc Marquez fell, seconds after taking pole position. As a result, the opportunity for the veteran racer from Spain to win the American GP for the eighth time and the first time with his new team, Gresini, was dashed.
Championship leader Jorge Martin finished fourth with reigning MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia close behind. (AFP/Z-1)
