English legend David Beckham described his compatriot Harry Kane as a “real leader” following missing a decisive penalty during England’s 2-1 defeat by France on Saturday in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Kane scored the equalizing goal for England from a penalty kick, following Aurelien Tchoamini advanced with a goal for the Dukes, then Olivier Giroud scored the second goal for France in the 78th minute, and six minutes later England got a new penalty kick, but Kane hit the net.
Beckham suffered from a similar situation following being sent off during England’s match once morest Argentina in the 1998 World Cup round of sixteen, to be subjected to a lot of abuse following this incident, but this time he wants the English fans to stand next to Kane.
Beckham wrote through his personal account on the “Instagram” network to exchange photos on Sunday: A true leader must rise in these moments, and this is what our leader Kane did.
He added: Our boys will continue to grow, it is always the worst feeling to wake up from a tournament, but our players, Gareth Southgate, the coaching staff and all our fans can feel proud of this team.
And he stressed: Next time the end will be different, we proceed with our heads held high.
