The two tour buddies Beck (who recently Thinking About You charmed) and (the Pusha T-Host) Phoenix collaborate for sunny synthpop/ nu disco song Odyssey.

The two parties meet in front of a relaxed, grooving, subtle tropical rhythm not far from the consensus of the better moments of the younger record Phoenix and a version of Midnight Vultures-in-Coldplay’esk-Egal, revel in a nonchalantly longing mood of optimism with good humor and optimism: “Summer days, flowers waste/ I’m on fire, welcome to your life/ Don’t look the other way/ Our wheels of fortune run the course across the track/ If only I might feel the warmth across my back/ …/ Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah/ Yeah, yeah, you might have to lose to win/ …/ A hornet’s nest of blessings/ I confess it’s messing/ With my mind the way/ We live and die in a day/Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah“.

Odyssey convinces with a manageable profundity through the airy mood, the detailed architecture of the production and an unobtrusive danceable atmosphere, especially since the number doesn’t sound as tried as it actually is, especially since you like to listen to the pleasing popness.
Strictly speaking, however, melodies and hooks remain non-binding, only stick together incidentally and, above all, are quickly forgotten.
Which means that the almost four minutes of the intention to create exuberant euphoria rise and are really well suited as extremely competent background filling material, the tasteful summer playlist or the relaxed stroll through the shopping center with holiday flair: Odyssey is (with reduced claims) as harmless as it is pleasant.
