From January 14th to 18th, the internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Becca Stevens takes up a unique artist residency within the vibrant walls of Cologne’s Department 6 Jazz/Pop at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. During this immersive week, Stevens, known for her versatility and captivating blend of genres, will delve deep into the world of musical creation alongside a new generation of musicians.
Stevens’s residency promises a dynamic and multifaceted exploration of musical expression. Students from the esteemed program, alongside NICA artists, will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with Stevens, working on their original compositions and delving into the intricacies of her own rich repertoire. The residency will culminate in a captivating concert at the Stadtgarten Cologne, offering audiences a unique glimpse into the creative process through a journey of sound.

The concert itself will be a testament to the spirit of the residency, showcasing Stevens’s artistry in three distinct contexts. **Becca Stevens:** Thanks so much for having me.
**Host:** So, you just wrapped up this fascinating residency at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. Tell us what inspired you to take on this project.
**Becca Stevens:** Cologne has such a vibrant music scene, and Department 6 Jazz/Pop is a truly special program. I was drawn to the opportunity to work with these incredibly talented young musicians and share my experiences while learning from their fresh perspectives.
**Host:** And what was it like collaborating with these students?
**Becca Stevens:** It was electrifying! Their energy and excitement are so contagious. We worked on their original compositions, exploring different styles and improvisational techniques. Witnessing their creativity firsthand was truly inspiring.
**Host:** The residency culminated in a concert at the Stadtgarten Cologne. What can you tell us about that experience?
**Becca Stevens:** It was a truly unforgettable night. The concert showcased the unique blend of our creative energies. I performed solo pieces, led a large ensemble, and shared the stage in a more intimate setting with a smaller group of musicians. It was a journey through different sounds and collaborative experiences.
**Host:** Your music is known for its beautiful blend of genres – pop, jazz, folk, indie rock. How did that mix play into this residency and the concert itself?
**Becca Stevens:** I believe music has no boundaries.
