The Tunisian Ministry of Culture prevented the film from showing, following boycott campaigns led by a group of anti-normalization parties, for the Israeli actress Gal Gadot to star in the film, which was inspired by the novel of the same name by writer Agatha Christie.

In statements to Agence France-Presse, Tunisian activist Kawthar Chebbi said that it was scheduled to hold a protest in front of one of the major cinemas in Tunisia to prevent the film from being shown, especially since Gal Gawdt received training from the Israeli army and supported the occupation, but the protest was canceled following the decision to withdraw the film.

This was also confirmed by the officials in charge of the halls in Tunisia to the agency, stressing that the presence of the film’s poster does not mean that it will be shown.

Gal Gaudt’s movies banned

In 2014, the Israeli actress, Gal Gaudt, announced her support for the Israeli military operations in Gaza, and criticized the Palestinian people, in an operation that resulted in the death of at least 2,251 Palestinian civilians and the killing of 74 Israelis, the majority of whom were military.

The incident is not the first, as Gaudt’s “Wonder Woman” movie was previously banned in Tunisia in 2017.

Despite the state of controversy over the film that began before it was shown because of its heroes, whether the heroine of the film accused of supporting Israel, or the participation of American actor Armie Hammer in the film, who is accused of rape and assaulting many women, he was not excluded from this work. However, Steve Aspel, president of the production company, “Twentieth Century Studios”, had issued a statement a few months ago, expressing the company’s great pride in working with the cast, and said, “We are very proud of this film, the genius cast and the wonderful work that contributed to the delivery of a “crime on The banks of the Nile” to the display screen”.

The film “Crime on the Banks of the Nile”, adapted from one of the novels of the famous writer Agatha Christie, revolves in the thirties of the last century, regarding the murder of a passenger on a luxury ship in the Nile, which brought together a group of businessmen and the world’s rich on a trip down the Nile.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Information had banned the screening of the movie “Crime on the Banks of the Nile” from cinemas following calls to boycott the film because of its Israeli heroine Gal Gadot, who served in the Israeli army for two years, while Lebanon banned the film from showing a week ago, and the film faces calls to boycott it in Jordan.
