Several Arab countries decided to ban the showing of the new Spider-Man movie in cinemas, following it failed to obtain the approval of the regulatory authorities.

And the reason for the ban, according to the newspaper The Times A scene in the film shows a banner supporting transgender people.

The newspaper said that Spider-Man was included in the list of films expected to be released last week in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon and Egypt, but the film was suddenly and quietly banned from showing.

No official reason was given for banning the film before its release on June 22, days before Eid al-Adha.

However, the American magazine Variety reported that the Emirati authorities are not satisfied with a flag promoting transgender people within the film’s events.

The light blue, pink and white flag appears almost invisibly on a poster in the background of one of the scenes in the film, but carries the message: “Protect Transgender Children”.

Some fans have speculated that Gwen Stacy, the alternate version of the comic superhero Spider-Woman, is “gender neutral or maybe even transgender”.

Fans have also noted that Gwen’s father, George Stacey, appears carrying a transgender flag on his police uniform in the film. This may have caused discontent with regulators in conservative Muslim countries.
