Vinicius has been subjected to many racist insults, due to his skin color, since his transfer to Real Madrid, and these were captured on cameras during the “Meringue” matches in the stadiums of Osasuna, Mallorca, Real Valladolid and Barcelona.
The Brazilian player believes that things must change in Spain, otherwise there will be a need to change the venue of the 2030 World Cup.
Football España quoted the Real Madrid player as saying that if Spain cannot end racism, FIFA should strip it of the honour of hosting the 2030 World Cup.
He explained: “Until 2030 there is a very large margin for change. I hope that Spain will be able to develop and understand how dangerous it is for a person to be insulted because of the colour of his skin.”
Vinicius Junior continued: “If things don’t change by 2030, I think the World Cup venue should change, especially if Spain’s stance against racism doesn’t improve before 2030, the World Cup should be moved somewhere else.”
“If any player does not feel comfortable or safe playing in a country where they can suffer from racism, then the matter becomes more complicated,” he added.
He added: “I want to do everything possible to change the circumstances, because the majority of the Spanish people are not racists. Racists are a small group that affects the image of the country.”
He concluded: “I love playing for Real Madrid, I love Spain, and the country has the best living conditions for me and my family. We hope that things will improve.”
Spain is set to host the 2030 World Cup, co-hosted by Morocco and Portugal.
