Because of a challenge on Tik Tok, students were poisoned in Mexico

The Mexican authorities have warned of the dangers of a popular challenge on the TikTok platform, which caused the poisoning of a number of students after they took some kind of medicine.

“Whoever sleeps last wins.”

The “last sleeper wins” challenge is trying to keep people awake after taking clonazepam, a drug commonly used to treat epilepsy, panic attacks or excessive anxiety.

Drowsiness is a side effect of the drug.

The Public Safety Authority in the capital, Thursday, indicated that ambulance personnel treated five minors who were poisoned inside a school in Mexico City.

Three similar cases were reported by the authorities of the northern state of Nuevo León. No student developed serious symptoms.

“Unfortunately, challenges spread through social networks often endanger the health of others,” said Nuevo Leon Alma Rosa, Minister of Health.

Several videos spread on TikTok showing people filming themselves taking the drug and waiting for the results.

However, other users posted videos warning of the seriousness of the challenge, which has already spread in Chile.
