Siegen/Hamburg. A working group from the Diakonie Klinikum Jung-Stilling traveled to Hamburg for the autumn meeting of the German Society for Cardiology. There Dr. presented Kay Felix Weipert presented the range of services offered by the Medical Clinic II as part of the “Spectacular Cases” section. The case presented concerned a patient with a rare congenital malformation that made conventional access via the inguinal vein impossible. Instead, an innovative procedure was carried out via the jugular vein. Dr. Weipert explained: “In the patient presented, due to a rare congenital malformation, it is not possible to use the conventional access route via the inguinal vein to reach the left atrium that requires treatment. Instead, an innovative access route via the jugular vein had to be chosen in order to carry out the procedure This special technique proved to be safe and extremely successful.”
