CARLOS Alcaraz advanced to the final of the China Open with a straight sets win over Daniil Medvedev.

The world number three tennis player needed 88 minutes to secure a 7-5 and 6-3 victory.

It was Alcaraz’s eighth win in a row since his shock second-round defeat by Botic van de Zandschulp at the US Open.

A tight first set saw the players fail to hold serve for four consecutive games resulting in a 4-4 draw.

Spaniard Alcaraz broke again in the 10th game before holding serve to take the first set in 48 minutes.

Medvedev needed two medical breaks for treatment on his left leg as Alcaraz controlled the second set, sealing victory with his fourth match point.

“It was a little unusual, with my serve being broken many times in the first set. I don’t know what happened to me. I probably lost focus a little,” said Medvedev, quoted by the BBC, Tuesday (1/8).

“I’m very happy that I didn’t lose focus for too long in the first set. I recovered it as soon as I was broken, and I’m very happy that at the end of the set I was able to play very good tennis.”
