Miroslava Dunárová and Daniela Mokra, on the other hand, suffered two defeats today against the popular German pair. First, they lost to Laura Ludwig and Louisa Lippmann, then lost in two sets to Svenja Müller and Sinja Tillman. However, the Czech team finished third in the group with a record of 1 win and 2 losses and is waiting for the playoff preliminaries.

Jakub Šépka and Jiří Sedlák opened the European Championship with a valuable victory. In The Hague, they defeated Dutch veterans Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen in three sets, and finally won 16:14.

In the first set against the world’s No. 85 team, Hermanova and Shtohlova took an early lead and gradually expanded their lead to the final 6 points. The second set was more balanced, and in the end the Czech Olympian scored 5 points in a row at 16:17. Against the home team, Koninkova and Poizova initially lost by 5 points, but ultimately fulfilled their duties as favorites.

Dunaroa and Mokra led by 5 points in the first set, but the experienced German pair equalized the score and scored 3 consecutive points to decide the set at 17:17. The second set was already decided, with Ludwigova and Lipmanova quickly putting on a great game and maintaining their lead with ease. Another veteran couple, Mueller and Tillman, weren’t surprised that night either.

Semerad and Doumek led against Norway at 19 minutes and 15 seconds, but they failed to use four set points and ultimately lost the first set. Another balanced ending went in favor of the Czech team, who immediately failed to seize the start of the tie-break and lost 0:6. They were unable to make up the deficit and lost 22:24, 21:19, 7:15. The men’s team will complete its group stage on Thursday.

Czech top-ranked players Ondrej Perušić and David Schwerner fell ill after the Olympics and will not start at the European Championships. Sweden’s David Achmann and Jonatan Hellweg, winners of the past two European Championships from Paris, also opted out of the tournament, which took place just days after the event. In the women’s competition, defending champion and Olympic bronze medalist Tanja Hüberli lost to Swiss Nina Brunner.
