Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) – The Canary Islands (Spain) are the Germans’ favorite sun travel destination in winter.
However, the archipelago has been classified as a high-risk area by the Federal Foreign Office since Christmas. The current 7-day incidence in the Canary Islands is over 1000. At the turn of the year, tourists were still basking in the sun on the beach of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria.
In general, it is currently mandatory to wear a mask in closed rooms in Gran Canaria. However, sunbathing on the beach is also possible without a mask – as long as there is a distance of at least 1.5 meters to the next towel. People from the same household do not have to keep a distance as long as there are no more than six people together.
The 3G rule is mandatory in restaurants on the sunny island, here too a maximum of six people can sit at one table – until 1 a.m., then curfew. Dancing is forbidden.
Other countries are now high risk areas
Since Saturday, Italy, Canada and Malta have been other high-risk areas. Means: People who are not fully vaccinated (including children) have to be in quarantine for at least five days following returning from vacation.
As of Tuesday, the UK and South Africa will be downgraded from virus variant area to high risk area.
