While air temperatures will continue to stabilize following a midweek heat wave, gusty winds and high waves on Lake Michigan will also hit hard on Saturday.
Consequently, the National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement, which will remain in effect through Sunday morning.
Swells of 4 to 7 feet are expected throughout Saturday and into Sunday, with occasional waves as high as nine feet.
Residents are urged to stay out of the water and avoid breakwaters and beachfront paths at this time.
The waves will be driven by increasing wind gusts, which might reach 20 to 30 miles per hour all day Saturday.
Those winds come when humidity levels are expected to drop in the Chicago area, and lower dew points will create much more pleasant conditions following this week’s heat wave.
High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 70s throughout the area, with cooler readings near Lake Michigan.
By Sunday, dew points are expected to drop to 50 degrees, with high temperatures only reaching 70 degrees.
Temperatures will rise slightly on Monday and Tuesday, reaching up to near 80 degrees, but a weak cold front might bring some showers and thunderstorms to the region on Tuesday, and then drop temperatures to around 70 degrees on Wednesday.
