Throughout the more than 22 years of life of SIGRE, thanks to the ecodesign measures by companies to develop more sustainable packagingto the reverse logistics of waste collection and the recycling of medication packaging materials deposited by citizens at the SIGRE Points of pharmacies, it has been possible to reduce the average weight of pharmaceutical containers by more than 25% , avoid the felling of 200,000 trees (the equivalent of 10 parks in El Retiro in Madrid) and the emission of 84,440 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, and save the consumption of 370 million liters of water (the amount needed to fill 150 Olympic swimming pools) , 400 million kWh of energy and 65 million liters of oil, cthus contributing to the fight once morest climate change and reducing air pollution.
This campaign, which will have a presence in the main media and in all pharmacies in Spain, also asks that special attention be paid to antibiotics, since four out of ten Spaniards are still not aware that if they throw leftover or expired antibiotics in the trash, they can contribute to the development of bacterial resistance, one of the top 10 health threats that humanity faces.
