The fruit and vegetable wholesaler and importer Special Fruit is withdrawing from sale on Friday, in consultation with the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (Afsca), avocados from Peru due to too high a content of matrine residues , a plant protection product. The fruits were sold at Colruyt (Boni brand) and Carrefour (Best Choice brand).

The Boni brand avocados, distributed in Colruyt stores between March 8 and 20, bear the batch numbers PRD0862907, PRD0862908, PRD0862909 and PRD0864507. Minimum durability dates are March 18, 19, and 20, 2023.

Best Choice brand avocados have been sold in Carrefour stores since March 22. The lots bore the number L1203 – 0868840.

Matrine is a substance known for its insecticidal and fungicidal properties. It is banned in Europe.
