Teeth cleaning is a necessary routine that many people are keen to do on a daily basis.
But did you know that doing a certain activity while brushing your teeth can be harmful to your brain, according to bestlifeonline.
Doing more than one thing at once affects your memory:
Doing too many things at once disrupts your ability to physically do things, pay attention, focus, respond and remember, both in terms of remembering what you know and what you are doing at the present time.
If you’re trying to do two or more things at once, you probably won’t excel at either, even when one of those actions is something as familiar as brushing your teeth, explains Dr. Leilani Saez, assistant professor at the University of Oregon.
Being occupied with your phone while taking care of your oral hygiene or doing any other routine in the bathroom can have negative effects on your brain.
“Smartphones can affect working memory by drawing your attention away from everything you’re doing,” says Saez. “Working memory is an executive function we use to put information into consideration and do something else at the same time.”
Multitasking is bad for your brain:
When you brush your teeth at the same time, trim your nails, or comb your hair, and scroll through your smartphone, you may also be doing a third activity, which is detrimental to your brain health.
– Phone affects cognitive performance:
Phones affect our health in different ways. Not only can phone use affect brain health, sleep patterns, mental sharpness, and social and emotional skills, but cognitive ability is significantly reduced when the phone is within reach, even when the phone is off.
In addition, it can make the body in a state of stress and hypervigilance, which drains a lot of energy, in addition, performance deteriorates when attention and memory are constantly shifted in ways that prevent focus, so it is advised not to use your phone while doing other tasks.
