The heat pump is not suitable for all homes
The President of the Republic announced thata million heat pumps would be manufactured in France as quickly as possible. It is not won because only 300,000 heat pumps are currently manufactured. To achieve the goal of hiring 30,000 people, it is necessary to triple production and allow the construction of 12 new factories. However, regarding the heat pump, if your home is not perfectly insulated, especially if it is old, its use may not be optimal.
It is true that acquiring a heat pump (PAC) is a significant investment, often much more expensive than a gas installation. However, we must not forget that aid exists to reduce this initial rating. In addition, with photovoltaic panels, the heat pump might well pay for itself in the long term thanks to its low operating cost.
The colder it is, the less effective it is
When temperatures drop, the performance of the CAP does the same. It is not practical for people living at the foot of the mountains, where the temperature reaches -5 degrees in winter. This is a physical law: it must exert more effort to extract heat from an increasingly cold source. However, let us remember that in our temperate regions, extreme cold spells remain rare. In addition, additional heating, like a wood stove, can be judicious during the coldest episodes. If you are considering swapping your boiler for a heat pump, the answer is “yes”. The heat pump operates at milder temperatures, thus requiring larger exchange surfaces. However, this transition is not always the optimal solution for every household.
If producing electricity for a heat pump actually requires more fossil energy, we must not forget that our electricity increasingly comes from renewable sources. The heat pump, despite its electricity consumption, offers three times higher efficiency than a gas boilerthus largely compensating for this initial energy.
