Mumbai: The Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that there will be no fireworks during the World Cup matches in Mumbai and Delhi as it will increase the level of pollution. The BCCI’s announcement came on the same day that the Bombay High Court took notice of Mumbai’s worsening air quality and initiated voluntary action.
BCCI says the board is committed to fighting environmental issues. Secretary Jai Shah said. “The BCCI understands the concerns regarding air quality in Mumbai and Delhi. Therefore, there will be no fireworks in the matches in Mumbai and Delhi. The World Cup will be held as a celebration of cricket. We will always put the interests of our fans and partners first. We will ensure their safety,” he said.
Mumbai’s air quality index on Tuesday was 172, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. India will take on Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh match at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi on Monday.
