BBC plans to cut 500 jobs in the next two years

This will save £200 million (€237.49 million), which will be invested in expanding the premium video offering and digital capabilities, said Chief Operating Officer Leigh Tavaziva, according to the PA news agency.

The cuts are to be completed by March 2026, and severance packages are to be offered, among other things. The BBC has been on a cost-cutting course for some time. Only two years ago, savings of 500 million pounds were announced. The previous Conservative government had not allowed the BBC to increase its fees for two years, despite high inflation rates.

With its annual report, the BBC also published the top salaries of its presenters and reporters. As in previous years, former professional footballer and sports presenter Gary Lineker is at the top of the salary list with an annual salary of around £1.3 million.
