Online scams have become increasingly targeted and use popular topics as one of their strategies to attract Internet users and make more victims.
In the midst of this, Big Brother Brasil ends up being one of the main subjects of the moment and that can be targeted for future fraud. It has even been used in some cases even before this year’s edition began. Detective TudoCelular separated the facts and warns of possible scenarios in which the name of the program might be used for illegalities.
Pix to be a participant
One of the cases revealed earlier this week happened to Yara Vellasco. The singer said in a live that a scammer asked for a Pix of R $ 35 thousand with the promise that she might enter BBB 23.
The cybercriminal would have tricked a person the artist trusted to get to her and get the money. In addition, six other people would have fallen into the trap and sent money to the hoax.
The person went by the name of Gisele Romero and would have made the artist spend money, go to São Paulo and even record material. There was an Occurrence Bulletin made once morest the scammer.
Hacked Participant Profile
Another case happened last Thursday (12), when the participants had their names revealed by TV Globo. One of the anonymous members (Pipocas), makeup artist Marília Miranda, had her Instagram invaded by cybercriminals, who began publishing tables with false investments in Pix.
The deceivers asked followers to transfer money, in exchange for “returning” up to R$ 10,000, depending on the amount received. This type of scam has already been covered previously here in the TC Detective column.
Marília’s instagram was hacked. And the same people who hacked it are asking for pix. DON’T DO IT! IT’S GOLPE! We are already taking the appropriate measures. Spread this around so no one can fall!#TeamMarilia pic.twitter.com/EX0E9WLeWw

Through the Twitter profile, the participant’s ADMs confirmed the invasion and said that they were already taking the appropriate measures to regain access – which was later resumed.
Marília’s team even gathered all the screenshots of conversations that the fans had with the suspects, attached them to documents and took them to the police to take the necessary measures.
potential scams
It is not just through hacker attacks once morest participant profiles that scams involving the name of the reality show can happen. Other forms also awaken danger for users.
One of them is the promise to see the pay-per-view from the program. Scammers can exploit fans’ desire to follow participants’ daily lives at no cost to drive Internet users to malicious sites or to download software that contains malware.
In addition, one of the threats within this aspect is to require some registration from the victims to grant access to the images. This might lead to delivery of personal data to malicious persons.
Also beware of emails or messages that promise access to leaked intimate videos of participants, as in addition to disclosing being a crime, pursuant to law 13.718/2018 of the Brazilian Penal Code, the same occurrences already mentioned for data theft or installation of malware may also apply.

How to protect yourself?
The first step to protecting yourself is not to believe any message that comes to you that promises easy 24/7 access to images or other content. In other words, Internet users should not click on suspicious links or pass on their data to third parties.
If you see a suspicious post on a participant’s profile, it is also important not to fall for promises of easy money or any publication that is different from the usual.
Finally, it is worth keeping a security solution installed on your device, to detect if any preventive measures may fail.
