BBB Breeding: Dominating the Agricultural Fair with Champion Heifers and Massive Cows

Among the breeders present at this 87th Agricultural Fair, we find the BBB breeding of the Hubert family, from Steinbach (Gouvy). Jean-Luc and Pierre Hubert, father and son, took part in the traditional BBB competition this Saturday.

A competition that turned out to be more than positive since the family won first place with their heifer Farandole, 15 months old and weighing 520 kg. The Huberts also won 4th place with their second heifer present at the Fair.

“It’s a real passion, explains the father. We really like this breed and we participate in all the regional and provincial competitions. It’s a legendary competition and a brand image for our breeding.”

9 years for 1044 kg

But the praise does not stop there since a cow from the farm, Aurora de Centfontaine, is present at the Stand de l’Awé. “Aurora is the heaviest cow at the Fair, says the son, Pierre Hubert. She weighs 1044 kg. She is also the oldest since she is 9 years old.”

In the alleys of the breeding, within the Stand Awé, visitors do not fail to stop for a few minutes to admire it, some opening their eyes wide and putting their hand in front of their mouth.

“It is a source of pride that Aurora has been selected to be exhibited, as well as Farandole, says the young farmer, who took over the farm in 2020 during the Covid period. Succession is always difficult. We never know what tomorrow is made of and the objective of a takeover is to invest in the long term. But it’s such an exciting job, it’s a source of pride for young people to get there. And when you receives prestigious prizes like those of the Fair, it is a very beautiful reward.”

The morning barely passed this Saturday that the two breeders had already won everything. “Our Fair is already a success”, they say, all smiles.
