BB.lv: Transit according to the Hamburg account: Brishkens went to Germany

The minister is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with Hamburg’s Senator for Transport and Mobility, Agnès Tjarks, Senator for Economy and Innovation, Melanie Leonhard, and Airbus Vice-President for International, Nordic and Baltic Affairs, Jean Delbecq.

During the visit, the Minister of Transport will take part in events organized by the Hamburg City Hall, the Latvian Investment and Development Agency, and the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including a business forum. Brishkens also plans to have bilateral meetings with entrepreneurs in the transport industry and visit infrastructure facilities.

Briškens noted that cooperation between Latvian ports and the Port of Hamburg has a long history and creates a solid foundation for further development. Today, the Port of Hamburg plays an important role: it is the largest port in Germany and at the same time one of the most important transit hubs in Europe. Latvian ports, in turn, have become gateways to the Baltic region, providing effective connections with the countries of Northern Europe and Scandinavia.

“In the process of reorienting Latvian ports, the key to our future success is the movement towards a sustainable, environmentally and citizen-friendly transport system and competent management,” the minister noted..

The anniversary of the Port of Hamburg, which this year is celebrated from 9 to 12 May, is one of the largest annual events in Hamburg. This year, in honor of the 835th anniversary of the port, Latvia was given the honorary status of a partner state of the holiday.

Last year, Latvian ports took part in the traditional Latvian and German port days in Hamburg and Lübeck, where a memorandum of cooperation between Latvian and German ports in the field of transport and logistics was signed. This year, from July 10 to 12, representatives of Hamburg enterprises will arrive in Riga, where the Latvian and German port days will be held.
